About the owner

Soaring Eagle Engineering & Design Ltd or SEED Ltd for short, is an Alberta company, recently established in 2024 as a start-up. The owner and operator, Brian Funk, was a migrant from East Malaysia and got his training and education from Singapore. Came to Alberta, Canada in 2008 with the hope of building a career in engineering. Started working as an engineer-in-training in one of Edmonton's reputable consulting firm for a few years. Then moved on to work for a large oil and gas corporation for many more years. In the span of 25 years, Brian has worked in the O/G sector, OEM, design / consulting firms and varies local manufacturers in Alberta and Singapore.

Brian is now a fully licensed professional engineer with the province of Alberta and has a good standing record with APEGA. He specializes in mechanical engineering, product design / development, 3D modeling, drafting, stress analysis, reverse engineering, manufacturing plant layout design, procurement and project management. In the last few years, employment in mechanical engineering in Alberta has been very challenging. Companies are not willing to hire full-time engineers in a permanent position anymore due to rising cost. Brian got laid off three times in the last 6 years including the COVID pandemic in the early 2020. Therefore, SEED Ltd is born.

With SEED, Brian hopes to use his talent to good use and to help small and medium businesses that do not have the expense to hire full-time engineers, to grow their businesses. Compare to many engineering establishments in Edmonton and within Alberta, SEED is very young in it's infant stage and less experience in other areas of engineering. The challenge is high but the risk is higher. With perseverance and determination, SEED will grow, slowly but surely. In order to soar like an eagle, one must start from the bottom. Hence, the name Soaring Eagle Engineering & Design Ltd bears it's name.
